Scholarships for Postgraduate Studies in Coaching Psychology

More good news on the way for scholars. As we have mentioned before, Coaching Psychology / Existential Coaching Psychology is having more presence in the Academic area. There is a big interest in promoting research and academic studies. Therefore many organizations and Universities are offering scholarships for students of Coaching Psychology Postgraduate degrees (Masters and Doctorates) and researchers. It began with scholarships specially offered to students from specific countries with the intention to support Academic Coaching Psychology in those countries; and now different organizations are also offering diverse scholarships for students working in Coaching Psychology Social Projects that would represent a contribution to society and working on Volunteering Projects. Other scholarships are to be awarded to students focusing their work on innovation and Research in Coaching Psychology.
Although scholarships are awarded for different reasons it seems the main is the same, to promote Academic Coaching Psychology, its application (that inherently contributes to the quality of life of the people that practice it as well as to their society) and its research.

Academic Studies

Postgraduates Degrees in Coaching Psychology

We have decided to start with the Online Master in Coaching Psychology and the Online Professional Doctorate in Coaching Psychology from Middlesex University in UK to begin with information about this discipline that in the last years started to have more academic presence and entity.  Specially after the first and second International Coaching Psychology Congress and of course after many countries worldwide adhered to the International Society for Coaching Psychology.

Many universities in the world have incorporated Coaching Psychology as a topic and even a complete course on different careers as Psychology, Counseling and Social Work. Still, there are not many universities in the world offering a complete academic degree in Coaching Psychology. Academic degrees in Coaching Psychology are offered in UK, Denmark and Australia.
In Australia, the University of Sydney offers different postgraduate studies in Coaching Psychology for students holding a Bachelor degree in Psychology of at least 4 years.
In UK different universities have incorporated diverse Coaching programs, being Middlesex University one of the leading universities that offer different programs in Coaching Psychology.

The big news are that now it is possible to study a postgraduate degree in Coaching Psychology in a distance learning/Online mode. Now it is possible to study a Master Online in Coaching Psychology or a Professional Doctorate in Coaching Psychology Online from Middlesex University from every place in the world.
Originally these programs were ment for psychologists and health workers with experience in Coaching that want to purse a MA or PhD in Coaching Psychology, learning and applying this practice as well as enlarging the research within this field.
Now it is also directed to experienced Coachs aiming to extend their practice and knowledge incorporating insight of coaching practice from psychology perspective.
Another good news is that it is also open to people with degrees from other fields willing to enter into the Coaching Psychology world and become Coaching Psychology Professionals and/or to deepen into Coaching Psychology Research (Students holding degrees that are not related to behavioral sciences and/or that have no experience in Coaching practice will be requested to complete introductory courses in each discipline that will be offered also in an online mode).

Strenghts of the Online MA and PhD in Coaching Psychology

Graduated will obtain a MA or PhD in Coaching Psychology from a prestigious European Univertity together with the acreditation of worldwide recognized associations as the EMCC, the WABC and of course the ISFCP.

The accesibility and convenience provided by the online mode learning allows to the students to manage their own study schedule and also to be in permanent contact with their tutors and peers. This also make possible for students from different countries to have access to a postgraduate degree in Coaching Psychology.

Flaws of the Online MA and PhD in Coaching Psychology

Profesionals holding a degree in a different area than behavioural sciences and with no experience in Coaching will need to complete introductory courses for both disciplines of at least 60 academic hours.

Coaching is an interactive practical discipline, the main on learning coaching is the experience part which an online course even with the web2 platform they offer can barely provide. For the same reason it will be also lacking the rich dynamic that group work usually endow.*

*We have asked the program director about this, and according to him this should not be an issue due to two main reasons: (1) It is meant for people that already have a career and experience in Coaching practice (2) Different Coaching practices worldwide are associated with the academy and they will provide the vivencial part for people with no previous experience in coaching.

Introduction to Existential Coaching

The existential coaching bases its focus on the surmise that life is an unsure enterprise and that the only prediction possible is that we will be confronted with unpredictable things along that way.

As humans, we all have the experience of facing and dealing with any number of uncertainties of life. These can be personal (ie, health issues, employment, or romance) or related work (for example, the eruption of an unanticipated conflict within your company, or between competing organizations or nations) and often contain elements of both. Whatever uncertainty may be, however, our experience of it causes a felt sense of discomfort or anxiety.

Coaching recognizes that existential anxiety is not necessarily "bad" or a problematic presence should be reduced or eliminated. The feeling of anxiety can be challenging, we can get in touch with our sense of being alive, and is the source of all creative ideas and original, and decision-making. On second thought, a life that was free of anxiety would be empty of meaning, excitement, curiosity and the need to move in itself.

However, when anxiety about the uncertainties experience of life becomes confusing, unmanageable or intolerable, you try to start paths designed to reduce or eliminate anxiety. Unfortunately, the most common forms they take may be problematic in themselves.

Usually, we rely on strategies that refuse to deal with the existence of anxiety you feel. Or try to transform our anxiety felt in other types of anxiety with which they may be more able to handle. Or is it likely to "fall apart" in our anxiety felt by either acting impulsively and irresponsibly or follow "plod" through life with the hope that eventually the anxiety will vanish sooner it will.

While it is a "given" that all human beings experience anxiety, just what the specific events that cause the highest degree of intolerable anxiety in each of us and how we respond to it is determined by our unique "form of being in the world "- our world view.

Existential Coaching argues that it is very useful to apply the general techniques and specific unique experience of life issues. Instead, the creation of a safe and reliable "living space" encourages customers to learn more accurately and honestly experience just what your worldview is, what it is to experience oneself and others through the vision the world, and how the current dilemmas, concerns and uncertainties that are occurring may be challenges, or the results of that very same world view.
